Dwight Stannard: Reading Connection #2 - Women's Role In The Scientific Revolution

The Scientific Revolution was a time of substantial progression in scientific thought and development...by men.  The breakthroughs that took place happened under the hammer of a society ruled by a male dominant population.  So where were all the women during these times of scientific flourishing?  They seem to have been no where to be found.  That was because they were keeping a low profile.  At the time, women who stood out as individual or creative were usually deemed witches.  If they were to ever speak their opinion, they would immediately become a subject of inspection.  Many women were wrongly accused of being witches or performing witchcraft activities.  Women were not allowed to have good ideas.  They were not allowed to be heard, no matter the quality of their thoughts.
When a woman ever had thoughts that were of such good quality, they would resort to passing thoughts to men.  Most times these men would be the husbands of the women.  They had to be careful telling certain male individuals because if the wrong person got a hold of their ideas, there would be trouble.
It must have been very difficult for the women to feel appreciated during these times of hardship.  Eventually the women race joined hands and stomped on the sexism that took place i the pervious years.
